TCI: Commissioner James Smith announces departure at end of July, his deputy takes over Top Cop position

#Providenciales, May 10, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – Mere hours after James Smith, Commissioner of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force told a room full of tourism and travel stakeholders and government leaders that he is due to demit office in July; the Governor’s Office announced his replacement.

“Following an open competition and assessment, HE the Governor, Dr John Freeman CMG, has appointed Mr Trevor Botting, currently the Deputy Commissioner of Police, as the next Commissioner of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force with effect from 1 August 2019.”

Commissioner Smith told the packed room at the TCI Tourist Board’s Turks and Caicos Conference, TACC 2019, that he is at the end of his tenure which finishes in July.  Mr. Smith added that he is retiring full time from a 40-year career in policing.

To Magnetic Media, the Commissioner said of his Deputy Trevor Botting: “I am delighted that Mr Botting has been successful in becoming the next Commissioner for Turks and Caicos in the face of strong local and international competition. We have, and will continue to work well, as part of the senior team and his appointment will provide much needed continuity for officers and staff as well as members of the Government and community. The transition will be a smooth process ensuring that the strategic goals of the Force remain focused. Mr Botting is a 1st rate deputy and I am confident will be a successful Commissioner bringing knowledge, passion and commitment to the post.”
