#Providenciales, May 18, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – The country’s national bird is the country’s new national mascot and the Office of the Premier yesterday revealed the winner of a school competition which was in search of the eco-friendliest face of these ‘beautiful by nature’ islands.

Peaky is his name and standing over six feet tall, the Brown Pelican mascot created by the students of Clement Howell High School is unlike any of his species.

For one thing, Peaky has a message with a mission as he aims to keep the beauty of the TCI intact by discouraging use of environmentally harmful products and encouraging residents to participate in the appreciation of the natural heritage.

The Tourism Club of CHHS has topped Peaky’s head with a hat donning the TCI Tourist Board’s logo and he wears a blue shirt promoting recycling.  Peaky was clutching, in his feathered hands, a reusable bag with the recycle symbol emblazoned upon it and around the tail of his shirt, there are other natural national symbols and treasures.

It was announced during Tourism Environment and Awareness Month in 2018 that there would be the contest.

Clement Howell High won and earned more than kudos for the creative design: Peaky the Brown Pelican; they also won cash. The Office of the Premier presented the school with a cheque for $2,500 cash and the TCI Tourist Board added, $500 to the pot.

The Mascot Competition took place during Youth Explosion, which was held in March 2019.
