TCI: Another fire at dump, reported to TCI Police as arson… fire is out now
#Providenciales, May 8, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – Fire burned for 17 hours yesterday at the Providenciales Landfill or dump site; it was believed to be another arson and the matter has been reported to the TCI Police explained Kenrick Neely, Director of the Environmental Health Department.
EHD has temporary management responsibilities until the landfill finds a new management company.
Mr. Neely explained that it was around 2:30 a.m. that he was alerted to the blaze. The domestic fire unit was informed of the fire, but it was the operators at the dump which worked to extinguish the blaze.
Rock quarry was used to cover the inferno, with little use of water; a different approach this time said Mr. Neely, who added that there were no complaints of smoke to EHD by residents of Wheeland or Chalk Sound.
A downpour of rain this evening helped in putting out the fire; which was reported to Magnetic Media as extinguished by 7:20 p.m.
