#Providenciales, May 10, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – The Providenciales International Airport passenger capacity and services for entry to the country will have to improve in order to make travelers to the destination happier with their Turks and Caicos airport experience.
When the floor was open to questions at today’s Turks and Caicos
Conference, the first queries were linked to the airport and border control
services.
It has already been announced that there will be some changes in this
new fiscal year at the airport to improve traffic flow and other vital
logistics and it has already been touted that talks will turn seriously to how
the Providenciales International Airport will be expanded to accommodate the
hundreds of thousands of travellers flocking to the destination year after
year.
Invest Turks and Caicos Agency CEO, James Bursey took the question about
the airport and announced that a $40 million investment is coming to aide the
enlargement of the country’s main airport gateway.
Mr. Bursey also informed the travel and tourism stakeholders at the
conference that North Caicos is shaping up to be another international gateway
for the TCI, as its airport redevelopment is moving positively through
government approvals.
Mr. Ramon Andrews, Director at the TCI Tourist Board also had a
significant announcement about the immigration processing of tourist visitors;
that it will be shifting to an electronic and online portal by
2020. The new process will eliminate the paper forms which are
currently being filled out by international travellers.
Andrews said the agreement to get the ball rolling on the Electronic Immigration Cards will be signed within the coming weeks; it is expected that roll-out will happen early in the new year.
