TCI: Bringing the ‘holiness’ back to Holy Week

#Providenciales, April 14, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – Easter is about more than bunnies and eggs, baskets and a school break; it is far more than brunch or pastel dresses, and in the Turks and Caicos Island, there are several efforts aimed at returning the holiness to Holy Week.

The Church calls it the most solemn time on the Christian calendar.  The final days of Jesus Christ laced with epic sagas of praise, miracles, ironies, betrayal, denials, brutality, courage, wickedness, social inequity, grave sorrow, death and greatest mystery of all, the resurrection.

Much of that will unravel in at least two dramatic productions during Holy Week, which is next week; both will be staged at the Community Fellowship Centre church on Leeward Highway.

CFC has an entire week of events organized and the mission is not only to creatively showcase the gospel of Jesus Christ, but to ‘Pack the Pews’ with people.

Music Minister at the church, Judy Knowles said, “the goal of the events are two fold; to see souls converted to Christ and secondly, to encourage people to be reflective of and honour Holy Week.  Giving it the solemn place that it deserves.”

When so many are questioning the moral integrity and dysfunction is leading to surges and seriousness of conflict and crime, Minister Knowles said the Church has to re-assert itself for great impact.

“Commemoration of Holy Week is critical to our nation as we have seemingly lost the Holiness in the name of frolic and we are losing a consciousness of God.”

Holy Week begins tomorrow with a Palm Sunday parade from PTV’s parking lot to the church, just across from Nell’s Gift store; the parade, which is an annual happening begins at 9 a.m. and is followed by Palm Sunday service.

Evangelistic Services will be held on Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m. and the congregation has been encouraged to ‘Pack the Pews’ on these two nights in particular.

An Easter play under the theme, He Has Risen, will begin at 7:30 p.m. and features a range of talents and thespians who have been for weeks, working at bringing a stirring story to life.

On Maunday Thursday, there will be rest as Good Friday – a public holiday – will feature two events.  Good Friday church service at 10 a.m. and at 7 p.m. the National Youth Department’s Easter Production – Hell’s Flame.

On Good Saturday, as some call it, there will be a Baptism Service at the Bight Park; it gets started at 7 a.m.

All events at Community Fellowship Centre are free; Minister Knowles reminded that everyone is invited to attend.
