Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, April 4th, 2019 – Invest Turks and Caicos and partners returned from London following a successful week of promoting the country’s financial services sector to London’s ultra-high net-worth audiences.
Invest TCI’s
promotional activity started off with Industry leaders from some of London’s
top family offices, banks, and private client firms coming together on April 3rd at the Spear’sbreakfast briefing at
the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park for a presentation hosted by Invest Turks and
Caicos discussing the country’s opportunities for UHNW investors.
In their
presentations to an audience of over 40 specially invited guests, James Bursey,
CEO of Invest Turks and Caicos and David Stewart, partner at London and TCI law
firm Griffiths and Partners, and managing director of Coriats Trust, spoke
optimistically about the country’s financial services sector.
“We’re trying to
diversify, to capitalise on our small but perfect reputation on
financial services, and to try and grow that industry, so we are as a
government and as an investment agency, authorised by
government to come out and speak to communities like this
to say “we want you to come”,’ David Stewart told the audience. “We want
lawyers, we want accountants, we want bankers and fund managers to consider the
Turks and Caicos.”
“One of the things
we do on these islands is to promote just the natural beauty of the
place,” James Bursey stated. “What a lot of people forget is that we
are incredibly well positioned to command investment throughout
the region. Most of our real estate investors are making very good returns on
investing in the hotels and condominium that they develop,
and most of our capital has historically come from North America.”
Mr. Bursey went onto to highlight that the island is now turning its focus to
the UK. “We have good compliant arrangements with pretty much all the
major capital markets. We are very much a part
of British overseas territories, and we are a prime destination
for the UK market.”, Bursey said.
Following the
Spear’s Breakfast briefing, Bursey and Stewart conducted meetings with several
prominent businesses and institutions in London, including Her Majesty’s
Treasury. Bursey and Stewart was also interviewed by the London Stock
Exchange where they discussed the revitalization of the financial services
sector, key development priorities and growing the TCI economy.
