#Providenciales, April 5, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – The changes in the TCI Cabinet are significant but non-dramatic because the ministers who are in the Cabinet today, are still the men and women who will function at that level after changes take effect on May 8, 2019.

The Premier today issued a statement to say that change continues to happen and that more of the PDM Government’s agenda can be accomplished with the shuffle in portfolio responsibilities.

“As committed to do at the half term mark, I have now reviewed and proposed changes to Cabinet. The new portfolio assignments and the reassignments of Departments are sure to assist us in delivering on our promises and list of priority flagship projects.”

Infrastructure Housing & Planning are now turned over to Deputy Premier Hon Sean Astwood. The public learned in the statement that Immigration, Citizenship, Labour & Employment are now all in the hands of Hon Delroy Williams.  The Home Affairs portfolio is expanded to include Water and Energy and will be managed by Hon Goldray Ewing as its minister.  No change at the helm of Ministry of Education, Youth, Culture and Library Services but there is more on the plate of Hon Karen Malcolm.

The Premier explained: “However Social Services and Gender will join this Ministry as we focus greater efforts on the family unit with renewed focus on children, youth and women programs.”

Hon Ralph Higgs will continue as the Minister with responsibility for Tourism, but added to his portfolio is the Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies.

Hon Edwin Astwood continues as the Minister of Health and Human Services, Agriculture and Sports.

Madame Premier will remain with Finance, but now has changed her Ministry’s name to the Office of the Premier, Local Government and Community Affairs.

“These changes will take effect from May 8th following the Budget Debate. During the Budget Debate, all Ministers will announce their Ministry’s major flagship priorities for the new financial year.  We are excited in our work and remain committed to the change that is and will continue to take place. We continue to be honored to serve the people of these Islands.”
