#Providenciales, April 12, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – The Department of Environment and Coastal
Resources (DECR) will be ‘greening’ the Turks and Caicos and invite you to join
us in various activities to celebrate Earth Day (22 April), International Day
for Biodiversity (22 May), and World Turtle Day (23 May).
Earth Day will kick off the ‘KNOW YOUR
REGULATIONS’ campaign. The DECR hope to educate the community, at large, about
the TCI’s environmental rules and regulations through social media, radio, television,
and printed material.
Various school activities will also be
held in honour of Greening the TCI, including the annual essay competition, A
poster competition, book readings and a poetry contest. Activities will touch
on the Turks and Caicos International Film Festival youth program, sponsored by
Royal Bank of Canada, and the imminent single-use plastic bag ban awareness
campaign in collaboration with the Turks & Caicos Hotel & Tourism
Association (TCHTA) and Carnival Cruises.
If you, your business, or your school, would like more information on how to keep the TCI Beautiful by Nature, and how you can get involved in these activities, please contact the DECR’s Environment Outreach Coordinator, Amy Avenant, at 338-4176 or avenant.amy@gmail.com and keep an eye on the DECR Environment Outreach and EducationFacebook page for more details.
