#Providenciales, April 25, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – On Tuesday, April 23, FortisTCI
experienced outages that affected customers in several areas in Providenciales.
At approximately 7:09 p.m.,
service was interrupted to customers in the areas of Leeward and Leeward Palms.
This was followed by an interruption in service to customers in the areas of
Chalk Sound, parts of Five Cays and South Dock at approximately 7:38 p.m.
Crews were immediately dispatched
to both locations to begin troubleshooting and restoration efforts. The cause
of the outage affecting customers in Chalk Sound, parts of Five Cays and South
Dock, was identified and repaired. Service was restored to these customers at
approximately 9:20 p.m.
Crews worked through the night
and early morning in the Leeward and Leeward Palms areas to troubleshoot and
locate the fault on the underground system. The team was able to isolate the
fault to a small area and service was restored to most customers at 12:51 a.m.,
Wednesday, April 24. Some customers in Leeward remain without service.
Troubleshooting resumed early
this morning to identify the exact location of the fault. In general, locating
a fault on underground lines takes longer than on an overhead system due to the
required digging to access buried lines and equipment, before conducting
repairs.
Crews are currently on site and
are working to restore service as soon as possible. During this time, customers
may experience intermittent interruptions in service. Further updates will be
provided, once available. We thank you for your understanding and patience
during this time.
