United Kingdom, March 14, 2019 – The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office has still not given its response or indication of its reaction to the Foreign Affairs Committee report of last month which has outraged Overseas Territories as a serious encroachment on islanders’ way of life.

Radical changes in voting privileges, pressure to legalise same-sex marriage and a demand for that public register of beneficial owners of companies, are some of the major issues which have been cited by Caribbean British Territory leaders as overboard and invasive.

Cayman 27 recently reported that reply from the FCO and Lord Tariq Ahmad has not been definitive about what the British Government thinks and when precisely there will be a formal response to the back-benchers report.

An FCO spokesperson is reported as saying: “We will carefully consider the report from the Foreign Affairs Committee and respond fully in due course. We take our responsibilities to the Overseas Territories extremely seriously and are committed to assisting them in a range of areas – from building strong economies, to improving standards of governance and protecting vulnerable groups, to providing support to help protect the environment.”
