TCI: Back to prison for Gibson Jr as trial documents are still missing

#Providenciales, March 23, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – The attorney for Clifford Gibson Jr is arguing that his client’s constitutional right for a speedy trial is being infringed upon as today, there is yet another delay in the appeal of the 30-year-old, who is convicted of murder; he was returned to Her Majesty’s Prison in Grand Turk.

Gibson Jr and others were arrested in 2008 following a melee in down town Providenciales at the New Year’s junkanoo parade.  In the fight, Leslie Orellus, 17 was stabbed and he later died.  It was an emotional, heart-breaking case.

Attorney at law at F Chambers Law firm, Mark Fulford told Magnetic Media tonight that his client is a decent young man, who deserves a fresh chance at life.  For six years now, CJ, as he is affectionately called has been waiting for his appeal to be heard in the appellate court.

Today, that hearing was delayed because the Supreme Court Registrar is unable to find core documents for consideration of the appeal.  The Registrar, according to Fulford, has been ordered to ensure daily transcripts on the case are ready for the next sitting of the Appeal’s Court, which is four months from now.

Mark Fulford is hoping for his client to be released; citing that the young man has already served 11 years for the horrible fight which went tragically wrong. 

There was an appeal for bail for Clifford Gibson Jr, who was supported in court by many members of his family.  That bail request, said Fulford was denied.

The Appeals Court sitting ended yesterday.
