#Providenciales, March 18, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – A new policy will give strict instructions on how employers ought to treat citizens serving jury duty, a Department of Trade is approved for establishment in the TCI, an information on the Medical Treatment Abroad Policy was presented for review and full approval for the development of the North Caicos airport is another step closer to conclusion following the March 6, 2019 Cabinet Meeting of the Turks and Caicos Islands Government.
“Approved the terms of agreement between the TCIG and TVED
Ltd. to enter into negotiations for a development agreement to operate the
airport on North Caicos subject to further consideration by Cabinet.”
A photo of the North Caicos airport shows that private
aircraft continue to use the facility.
The Post Cabinet statement issued by the Governor’s Office
also revealed that Government has successfully found a home for the long
overdue Health Regulation Authority, HRA which will govern medical
services industry and practitioners in the country.
Several approvals were
outlined for the Department of Environmental and Coastal Resources and it will
activate an Environmental Impact Assessment to resolve issues from a recent
public consultation; there will be actions as the contentious issue of beach
access is addressed and parts of Chalk Sound will soon be approved for removal
from the national park, therefore free of protections and restrictions.
Airbnb negations are to
start with the Revenue Department, said the Post Cabinet report and the goal is
for a Memorandum of Understanding to be drafted soon.
Also interesting from the
meeting, which had full attendance, is new stipulations to come on taller
constructions.
“Subject to public consultation, agreed to the
drafting of amendments to the Residential and Commercial Development Building
height and set back standards to include more detailed provision for buildings
between 7 and 12 storeys high.”
The meeting was held at the Hilly Ewing Building in Providenciales.
