TCI: Community College in Provo crowded, satellite campuses possible solution

#Providenciales, March 5, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – Satellite campuses are coming for the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College and it will mean more comfort for students but that is only the short to medium term plan; long term a purpose-built campus is the big dream for the tertiary institution based in both Grand Turk and Providenciales.

“The Government is in negotiations now for a purpose-built campus for Providenciales… it is an active discussion that is going on now.” said Dr. Hubert Fulford, President of TCICC.

Dr. Fulford led his TCICC team in a media meeting on Friday where strides of the 25 years of the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College and plans for this month, which is College Month, were laid out.  During the Q&A, there was an important response to our query about the crammed quarters at the Provo Campus.

“One of the things we are trying to get the green light to do is possibly look for an additional full time building to prese either move the hospitality program or the business program, which is a common thing throughout colleges,” said Keno Forbes, Chairman of the Board at TCICC.

The satellite campuses would be an interim measure and once successful, this could mean additional facilities at the current site including a common room and a library.

Concerns have in recent weeks been expressed about the spacing issues at the Providenciales campus, including a serious parking problem.  The local TCICC campus is out of space and growing enormously in popularity.

The TCICC currently offers 20 AA degree programs, 11 Bachelor degree programs and the dual site college is catering to 486 students; 278 of whom are in Providenciales.
