South Caicos resident puts PDM Administration on blast

South Caicos, March 19, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – South Caicos residents are crying out for public buildings to be refurbished now as several key sites are still bearing the battle scars of the 2017 hurricanes. Residents say it is unacceptable.

“The Clinic in South Caicos had tarpaulin on it since the passage of Hurricane Irma in 2017. The windows and doors of the Morgue were also destroyed. South Caicos people now have to send their dead to the Morgue in Provo to be kept until funeral time. This is such a shame as South Caicos was one of the first to have a Morgue in the islands.”

One report to Magnetic Media is that the issues at the public buildings named by the frustrated resident are deeper and more expensive that meets the eye.  It is said the South Caicos reconstruction bill and projects are a hefty cost and body of work which should be better funded this coming fiscal year.

The Minister of Health, Edwin Astwood has not yet replied to Magnetic Media on our questions about the deplorable state of his public health facilities in South Caicos, some 17-month following Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

South Caicos residents are also taking a swipe at the Premier in their comments, saying, “We residents also complain that the Government Clinic has no medication. On top of this, our Premier claims to be a Harbour gal.”

It was reported that damages in South Caicos were most severe; but one building was left untouched in what are labelled the two most fierce storms in hurricane history for the Atlantic Basin.
