#Providenciales, March 18, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – I interviewed her a day before an historic moment was set to unfold at the Town Centre Mall in down town Providenciales on Friday March 15; a moment signaling a new day in education at the tertiary level.

Dr. Longsworth wants you to fulfill your dreams without going broke.  She wants you to dramatically increase your earning potential thanks to your quality degree from UWI. She wants you to continue being a multi-tasking mommy, a dutiful daddy and doesn’t mind if you completed your course work in your PJs while eating a bowl of conch salad freshly made at your favorite spot.

You can stay in your home country, continue on your job, be there for important moments with your loved ones, enjoy your island lifestyle, be bolstered by the open campus in-country support and pay the most comparable rates for a up to a doctorate degree from UWI.

It’s what she essentially told me to tell you.

The University of the West Indies has now re-opened its Open Campus with the full support of the Turks and Caicos Islands Ministry of Education. Ahead of the opening on Friday, Magnetic Media spoke to Principal of the Open Campuses and Vice-Chancellor of UWI, Dr. Luz Longsworth.

She explained a site where there will be staff, space for students and one which offers an online education up to the doctorate level and from what is ranked as one of the top five universities in the World.

UWI has a prestigious history and for over 70 years has had a hand in shaping the lives of arguably the most country leaders of any university anywhere in the world.

Adult enrollees will be pleased to hear that their work experience can count as credits, thanks to the Prior Learning Assessment of UWI which reduces time and money spent in pursuit of a degree.

Dr. Longsworth said the open campus concept, which is ten years old, is open to all and that Turks and Caicos is the 16th site, with fellow British Overseas Territory Bermuda being the next stop for the University.

The Open campus is the second largest campus for UWI with 18,000 students enrolled.
