#Providenciales, February 23, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – Approval has come for the plans of the new public school for Providencieales and the builder is already working, announced Education Minister, Karen Malcolm on Thursday.

“I am happy to report that we have received all the new plans approval and the construction has started with the contractor in the process of mobilizing.”

The new school, being constructed with the support of the European Union, will be home to hundreds of children said the Minister, and despite a location dispute, the school will be situated in Long Bay, Providenciales.

“The new primary school will accommodate 550 students, it will have 27 classrooms total, six infant rooms and 21 grade rooms.”

The primary school will be hurricane proof and has been purpose built to double as a storm shelter.

Interesting to learn from the MoE team is that a new and common structural feature of re-built TCI government schools will be for internal access of restroom facilities.

“Classrooms will be linked by internal doors, which will allow for the movement of persons from one end of the building to the other where the bathrooms are located without being exposed to the elements,” explained the Minister as she gave detailed specifics on the coming facility.

There will be two playgrounds, science labs, art & craft room, modern library, media center, computer lab, a sound-proof music room, two special needs classrooms equipped with specialty equipment, a cafeteria, a stage for performing arts, ICT infrastructure and a multi-purpose room and auditorium able to accommodate the entire student population.
