Bahamas joint effort recovers more bodies of Haitian migrants

Coral Harbour Base, Nassau, Bahamas – February 6, 2019: Two additional bodies were retrieved from the waters in Abaco yesterday during a joint effort consisting of local authorities (Police, Immigration and Defence Force) and boat operators.  

This brings the total to 29 Haitian nationals who have lost their lives when a 40-foot conventional sailing yacht ran aground on Saturday past outside the entrance of Marsh Harbour, Abaco.

One of the bodies was retrieved near the wreckage, while the other was retrieved near the entrance of the harbour. The 18 survivors were turned over to Police and Immigration officials, and are being housed on the island

A joint search and recovery effort operation is being conducted in the nearby areas as authorities continue their investigations into this tragic incident.
