BAHAMAS: Commodore Tellis Bethel, Commander Defence Force Commends Runners

Coral Harbour Base, 3 FEB. ‘19 (RBDF): At a special presentation at the Coral Harbour Base, team members who participated in the Marathon races during the weekend of January 20 – 21 2019 were commended by Commodore Tellis Bethel, Commander Defence Force for their performances.

The Officers and Marines participated in both the Susan G. Komen Bahamas Race for the Cure (Saturday January 20th, 2019) and the Sunshine Insurance’s Marathon Bahamas Race (Sunday January 21st , 2019).

Marine Seaman Troy Seymour was given special recognition, as he was the first overall Bahamian to complete the half marathon race (13.1 miles).

Participants of the Susan G. Komen Bahamas Race for the Cure were: Lieutenant Commander Carlon Bethel, Sub Lieutenant Delroy Dennis, Leading Woman Marine Denise Oliver, Able Seaman Ryan Ferguson, Able Seaman Dorrian McKenzie, Woman Marine Adonya Colebrooke, Marine Seaman Troy Seymour and Marine Seaman Nakeito Thurston completed the 3 mile long run. The race commenced from the Montague Foreshores and culminated on Paradise Island in the parking lot of the Atlantis Resort.

At the Bahamas Marathon 10th Annual Road Race, the Military men and women participated in the half marathon segment as well as the 4-man relay. In the half Marathon (13.1 miles) Marine Seaman Troy Seymour and Marine Mechanic Christopher Cash finished 1st and 2nd overall in the 20-24 age category, Marine Seaman Darius Johnson placed 4th and Marine Seaman Blair Farrington placed 11th in the 25-30 category, Sub Lieutenant Delroy Dennis came 4th in the 30-35 category; and Lieutenant Commander Derrick Ferguson and Lieutenant Edward Fritz also participated in the Half Marathon Race.

The 13.1 mile half marathon commenced at Junkanoo Beach to Cable Beach, West Bay Street heading back to Arawak Cay.

The RBDF relay team of Marine Seaman Troy Seymour, Le’Ando Thompson, Wellington Ramsey and Marine Mechanic Kenneth Lewis placed 2nd overall.

Defence Force Marines were also stationed at various water spots in support of the Sunshine Insurance 10th Annual Marathon Bahamas 2019.
