TCI: Nearly 200 Haitians illegally land in Salt Cay; Premier Statement

#Providenciales, January 17, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – Overnight passengers  on a wooden sloop carrying Haitian nationals landed on Salt Cay. Law Enforcement Officers from the Immigration and Police Department were dispatched and arrived shortly after. The Officers have over the past hours been carrying out round ups and the passengers are being held at one location. More detailed information will be forthcoming.

I wish to thank the Director of Immigration and his Department, the Police and District Commissioner and residents of Salt Cay.

This incident has once again highlighted our vulnerability as an archipelago. We are grateful that the round ups have been peaceful.
