TCI: Fool Me Once, Shame On You. Fool Me Twice, Shame On Me

#Providenciales, January 23, 2019 – Turks and Caicos – The Premier and the PDM are at it again!  At minutes to midnight when the Service Charge was to come into effect, the PDM , like Nicodemus decided to make the announcement that the Service Charge would not come into effect as stated previously, by 1st  December 2018, as there were some educational that needed to be sorted out to ensure a smooth implementation.

There are a number of things that are at stake.  If, as the Acting Premier stated, there was a need for additional consultation, when and where, as well as with whom such a consultation take place?  We know that the Premier likes to resort to online consultation, where, in many instances, the results can be bogus, but in this instance, there is no evidence that she did even that.

A draft of any amendment to a Bill has to pass Cabinet and then be placed in the Gazette so that the public can have notice of the amendment.  That has not been done. Unlike an amendment to a Regulation, which when Cabinet approves it, it can take effect once published in the Gazette, an amendment to a Bill must be tabled in the House of Assembly, and after three readings, passed.

The PDM are once again trying to momiguy the people of the country generally, and the workers in the hospitality industry, particularly. They must be put to the foaksile.  They have sown the wind with their empty and unattainable promises, now they have to reap the whirlwind!
