Marijuana decriminalized in SVG, government looking to market their brand of ganja

#StVincent and the Grenadines, January 14, 2019 – It is no longer a criminal offense to be in possession of marijuana in St Vincent and the Grenadines.  A decision on December 11 has decriminalized cannabis in the Caribbean country, which is a part of CARICOM and a member of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States or OECS.

Agriculture Minister, Saboto Ceasar said in a news release that this now positions St Vincent and the Grenadines to  become a globally leading medicinal cannabis hub; not only in terms of high-quality production but research.  And it is not a rushed move explained the Senator, he said:  “The planning of this innovative industry has been carefully conducted over a long period in close consultation with the agricultural sector and many different stakeholders to reach the level of maturity we see today.”

Minister Ceaser added, “There is broad recognition and buy-in of the economic benefits this tightly controlled and regulated industry is expected to bring regarding direct employment, the creation of support industries and foreign investment.”

The Minister is also convinced that St Vincent and the Grenadines has the ideal climate for growing cannabis.
