The 11th Annual TCIFA Golf Scramble, raising funds for youth development

Published

#Providenciales, November 10, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – The TCIFA (Turks & Caicos Islands Football Association) Golf Scramble returned to Provo Golf Club in Providenciales on Sunday, November 4th, 2018.  It is part of the FA’s annual campaign to raise funds to promote and support the youth development football programmes across the Turks & Caicos Islands.

“The Golf Scramble brings our community together, away from the football fields, for a day of fun and celebration of our youth programme accomplishments.  This year, over 92 participants and 23 teams attended the event, raising over $15,000.00.  Through this platform, we are able to support youth tournaments such as the inter-island youth competitions, school tournaments, showcases, identification camps, and also provide some access to scholarship funding for dedicated players, ” expressed TCIFA President, Sonia Fulford.

Throughout the day, participants enjoyed an array of on course challenges in addition to an 18-hole scramble. These activities included a free kick with a football at the 10th hole, men and women longest drive, closest to the pin, and hole-in-one contests with $2,500 and $3,000 up for grabs.  An awards ceremony was conducted following the scramble, where prizes were awarded to the winning and losing teams; and a silent auction also took place.  The silent auction was garnished with over 28 prizes, at starting bids.

President Fulford went on to say that, “It is our hope to continue to partner with businesses within the local community who believe in our vision.  After a huge setback due to the 2017 hurricanes, the event turned out to be a success.  Over the past 11 years, this tournament has grown into something special, and something to look forward to nearing the holiday season.  Thanks to the generosity of the many persons and businesses who were able to make that significant difference.  Supporting the youth of our community is nothing short of a great investment.  We are building young minds, and providing them with an opportunity to learn, grow and lead”.

In commenting on F Chambers’ partnership with the TCIFA for the second time, Mark Fulford had this to say, “ F Chambers is very pleased to continue its sponsorship of the TCIFA Golf Scramble.  We view the work that TCIFA is doing throughout the community for our youth, as critical to the development of our children.  So, we are happy that we can support the TCIFA in putting on this fundraiser on an annual basis.  We look forward to our continued support in growing the TCIFA youth development football programmes from strength to strength throughout the entire Turks & Caicos. “

The 11th Annual Golf Scramble was an exciting and successful fundraising event, thanks to headline sponsor F Chambers, and co-sponsors Provo Golf Club, Caicos Express, Digicel, Business Solutions, The Tuscany, ProvoTravel, Royal Jewels, Walkin Marine, Graceway IGA, Beaches TCI, interCaribbean Airways, Ocean Club Resorts, The Shore Club on Long Bay Beach, Ports of Call Resort, Caribbean Element, Parallel 23 at the Palms, Flowers by EA, Bay Bistro, Gansevoort, Kalooki’s Gracebay, Missick’s Contracting, Miller Simons O’Sullivan, Simone’s Bar and Grill, Sail Rock Resort, Jai’s , Crackpot Kitchen, Olympia Destination Management Company, Do It Center, HardRock Concrete Company, Elite Brokerage, The Wine Cellar, Casablanca Casino, RBC Royal Bank, Caicos Mart, ENE Shipping and Trading, Tropical Gas, Custom Candii’s,  Leslie Watts, Gerry Gregg,  and Mervin Cox.

Mother’s Pride Headlines Bahamian Takeover at Sixers-Heat Clash in Miami

Published

The Bahamas, March 30, 2026 – The voice of a proud mother captured the spirit of a nation Monday night, as Bendra Rolle shared heartfelt reflections on the overwhelming Bahamian support for her son, VJ Edgecombe, during the Philadelphia 76ers matchup against the Miami Heat in Miami.

“The patriotic support and scenery at my son, VJ Edgecombe’s NBA game… was overwhelming,” Rolle said in a statement issued following the game. “The arena in Miami was lit. Bimini and the Bahamas showed up and showed out.”

Her words come amid what has already been widely described as a remarkable showing of national pride, with Bahamians traveling in large numbers to South Florida to witness the young guard’s continued rise. For Rolle, however, the moment extended far beyond basketball.

“Beyond VJ’s basketball talents, I’m so moved by his magnetic personality and personal journey to inspire and excite an entire nation—our beloved Bahamas,” she said. “I thank God for VJ’s humility and for his hunger for greatness. He never forgets how far God has brought us.”

While the Sixers did not secure the win on the night, Edgecombe delivered a solid individual performance, finishing with 13 points and five assists. He made an early impact on the game, showing confidence and poise before foul trouble disrupted his rhythm, but still managed to leave his mark in meaningful minutes.

The game itself evolved into a cultural showcase, with Bahamian flags waving throughout the arena and chants ringing out in support of Edgecombe. Much of that presence was bolstered by a coordinated travel push from Bahamasair, which helped facilitate fan travel and added to the electric atmosphere in Miami.

Rolle said the emotional weight of the moment was deeply felt by her family, as they witnessed firsthand the unity and pride of the Bahamian people.

“Thanks and love for the tears and overwhelming joy on Monday, Bahamas,” she expressed. “The Bahamian flags were love, loud, and proud. On my own behalf, VJ, and the entire family, I am ever grateful for the indescribable experience.”

Her closing words underscored what many have described as the true victory of the night—not the final score, but the powerful display of national pride and support surrounding one of The Bahamas’ rising stars.

Bahamian pride is already on full display in South Florida, with fans arriving in strong numbers ahead of tonight’s highly anticipated NBA matchup featuring VJ Edgecombe and the Philadelphia 76ers.

Helping to power that movement was Bahamasair, which rolled out a strategic promotion to facilitate travel, turning the game into a full-scale national showing.

And the celebration started early.

A “Bahamas Invades Florida” pre-party over the weekend set the tone, with Bahamian fans, DJs and supporters converging in Fort Lauderdale to build momentum ahead of the game.  The event, marketed as a major cultural gathering, has spilled into Miami, where a strong Bahamian presence is expected inside the arena tonight.

This is no ordinary road game.

The Sixers enter the matchup healthy and are favoured to win, adding to the anticipation surrounding what many expect to be a standout performance by the Biminite guard.

Edgecombe, the third overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, has been electric in his rookie season — delivering high-scoring performances and quickly establishing himself as one of the league’s most exciting young talents.

But beyond the stats, it’s the moment that matters.

With South Florida just a short flight away, Bahamians have seized the opportunity to show up in force — flags, energy and all — transforming the game into something far bigger than basketball.

A national turnout.
A rising star.
And a night where the Bahamas is expected to be felt — from tip-off to final buzzer.

Turks and Caicos Islands (March 25, 2026) — Fresh off an impressive high school track and field season, the Turks and Caicos Islands celebrated another outstanding showcase of young talent at the 2026 Inter-Primary Track and Field Championships, held March 18 to 20 at the Turks and Caicos Islands National Stadium.

The three-day event brought together enthusiastic students, coaches, parents, and supporters from across the islands, all eager to cheer on the next generation of athletes as they demonstrated their skills on the national stage.

As the Official Media Sponsor, leading telecoms provider Flow proudly built on the momentum of February’s Inter-High Championships, ensuring the accomplishments of the nation’s youngest athletes were streamed live via social media and broadcast on Flow TV’s Channel 111. This comprehensive coverage allowed family members, alumni, and sports fans near and far to follow the action in real time, giving the athletes added visibility and recognition for their hard work.

Despite challenging weather conditions, the junior athletes delivered three days of grit, sportsmanship, and record-breaking performances – strong indicators of a bright future for the country’s athletic development.

Flow further supported the event by keeping the stadium connected through the provision of broadband services and by participating in trivia intermissions, where several lucky attendees won Flow gift cards.

Carlencia Lightbourne, Senior Marketing Specialist, Flow Turks and Caicos, presented silverware and awards, along with Flow-branded merchandise bags to the winners of Flow’s headlined 200-meter races.

“Our partnership with the Turks and Caicos Islands Sports Commission is built on a shared vision for the advancement of our youth, and witnessing the determination and resilience these primary school athletes displayed has been truly inspiring,” said Joanne Missick, Country Manager, Flow Turks and Caicos.
