#Miami, FL, November 15, 2018 – USA – The week of November 5th, 2018 the Commissioner of Police, Mr. James Smith, traveled to Miami to meet fellow Chief of Police Daniel Oats of the Miami Beach Police, following months of informal partnerships.  The two signed a “Letter of Agreement” which formally enables officers from both forces to collaborate and provide mutual assistance.

Already, Miami Beach Officers have traveled to the TCI to provide training in the use of Axon’s TASER, a less lethal weapon and has seen the donation of a Prisoner Transport vehicle which will arrive in the country soon.

Plans are well advanced to deliver further training to 1st and 2nd level supervisors with a programme designed by Miami Beach Trainers in consultation with local staff. Collaboration has also begun on forensic capability and additional training in this ever-developing field.

Speaking on the official partnership Commissioner Smith said, “This is a great step forward, building on existing partnerships here and abroad that will help ensure officers in Turks and Caicos gain access to top quality training and equipment.  I am grateful to Chief Oats and his top team for their commitment to this initiative, especially Major Wayne Jones from Miami Beach and of course Mr. Jimmy Morales, the City manager for agreeing to this significant partnership.  This is the beginning of what I hope will be an enduring relationship which will benefit both police departments and of course the citizens we serve”.
