Government doubling down on NO SMOKING policy; signs to appear at their offices and health care centers

#Providenciales, Turks and Caicos – November 9, 2018 – The TCI Government is doubling down on its position that smoking must not happen in public places and during a cabinet meeting chaired by HE the governor, Dr. John Freeman on Wednesday, November 5, 2018, approval was given for the TCI Smoking Policy to be displayed in all government health facilities and buildings used by the Turks and Caicos Islands Government.

Now, remember, back in April of 2016, the Tobacco Control Law, which states that “a person shall not smoke or hold a lighted tobacco product in an enclosed public area, enclosed work-space or public conveyance” came into full affect.  It meant that smokers, could do so, but must now be at least 35 feet beyond an enclosed public place or enclosed workplace or public conveyance.

Law enforcers are also legally permitted to enter any premise to ensure businesses are adhering to the Tobacco Control Law.

Following this approval this past Wednesday by the TCI Cabinet, upon entering any building occupied by the government, everyone will be reminded of the two year old law.
