#Providenciales, November 8, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – The goal of modernizing how education is done and how education is managed in the public sector was hindered by ill-suited equipment that simply could not get the job done.  The Turks and Caicos Ministry of Education, was therefore thrilled at the interest of the Caribbean Disaster Management Agency to make a donation which would help the sector, help its practitioners and help our students bounce back to better following hurricanes Irma and Maria.

Minister of Education Karen Malcolm explained the situation amidst a hearty thank you to CDEMA for its donation of 88 computers.

“Three of the targets outlined in the 2018-2022 Education Sector Plan were to fully integrate digital technologies into the teaching and learning exchange, improve our abilities to access accurate timely data and build resilience in the education system to ensure business continuity.  Through CDEMA Legacy Project Funding, we were able to secure laptops to support teaching, learning and data entry into our Education Management System, EMIS.  We are grateful for this extraordinary kindness that is evident of your presentation of 88 laptop computers to the Ministry of Education, Youth, Culture and Library Services.”

Ronald Jackson, Executive Director of CDEMA explained that the generosity of countries and companies near and far led to a surplus of monies in their Legacy Project fund.  It was agreed that the surplus would be spent to further assist countries most severely impacted in the 2017 hurricane season, Turks and Caicos included.

Home Affairs Minister, Delroy Williams who is also Chairman of the Council of Ministers of CDEMA; called it a privilege.

“My job here today is to thank my director, Mr. Jackson for picking the Turks and Caicos as a recipient of these generous donations.”

The Premier was also on hand for the handover on October 31,  2018 at her office in Providenciales.
