#Providenciales, November 22, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – Over 120 people turned out to support the annual “Surf & Turf” horse racing fundraiser, sponsored by PwC, on 9 November.  The event is organised to raise monies for the Turks and Caicos AIDS Awareness Foundation (TCAAF).

Nick Haywood, Territory Leader, PwC TCI said: We’re delighted that the event was once again a phenomenal success. The generosity of our guests allowed us to raise $50,000 for the TCAAF, to support the Edward Gartland Youth Centre. It was heartwarming to see our community coming together once more in support of those in greater need and we at PwC are delighted to have been involved.  Our participation gives us an opportunity to live our core values, which include working together, caring, reimagining the possible, acting with integrity and making a difference.”

In keeping with the tradition of the event, guests enjoyed a family-style dinner with complimentary wine, while betting on pre-taped horse races that were announced live by Mr. Larry Collmus, voice of the Triple Crown and New York Racing Association.  At the evening’s climax was the “Turks and Caicos Derby”, sponsored by PwC, featuring a Calcutta-style auction of horses.  Half the proceeds were committed as a donation to the TCAAF, with the balance forming the payout for Win, Place and Show.  The champion’s trophy was awarded to Mike Eddy of Herzhog for his horse, ‘The Twins’, which took the top spot, followed by “Galloping Love” and “Shrimpy where u is?”, owned by Galmo “Gilley” Williams and Graham Thompson & Co. respectively. The largest contributor to the auction was Graham Thompson & Co., who bought two horses, including the most expensive horse at $10,000. All three winners graciously donated their winnings back to the TCAAF.

Galmo Williams, Founder of the TCAAF said: “Nick and his team at PwC do a fantastic job of organising this event, everybody who attends has a great time, and the support this provides to the TCAAF is incredible. Thanks to everyone involved.”

The TCAAF is committed to making the Turks and Caicos Islands a place where people living with HIV/AIDS have lives free from discrimination and prejudice. They are committed to continuing their work with the National HIV Prevention Unit and empowering everyone living with HIV in the TCI, promoting awareness and maximising health and wellbeing by working to ensure the best possible HIV treatment and support services. PwC’s commitment will continue in 2019.
