#Providenciales, October 26, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – On Sunday, October 7, locals teed up for a good cause as golf lovers, association members and residents celebrated at the annual TCHTA Charity Golf Scramble extravaganza at the Provo Golf Club in Grace Bay.

The fundraiser, which is one of the association’s biggest each year, raised over $16,000 all thanks to sponsors, golfers and supporters who contributed selflessly to positively impact those being introduced to our local hospitality sector.

“This was such a great event”, said Stacy Cox of the TCHTA, “We had tremendous support with over 10 teams and several sponsors participating.  Their contributions will allow us to continue with our hospitality programmes which open up great opportunities to those seeking a future in the industry”.

Now in its third year, the charity Golf Scramble was initially launched to support the TCI Hospitality Adventure programmes.  These programmes help facilitate the education of TCI youth interested in different aspects of the sector, as well as provide on-the-job training opportunities.  Since its inception, it also now contributes to the funding of the award-winning Team TCI which competes in the annual Taste of the Caribbean Culinary Competition. Some of the chefs and cooks on Team TCI got their first taste of the culinary scene through the youth programmes hosted by the TCHTA.

Of course, with this being a golf scramble it meant that amidst the philanthropy and good deeds there was also friendly competition.  Top winners for the day were Jonathan Katan, Steve Ross and Mark Harvey who took first place with 62.17 points in the scramble followed by Craig James Dave Gillett and Jack Watson who emerged as second place with 65.67.  Third place went to Jamie McAnally, Sheldon Wilson and Mervin Cox who came in with a total of 66.34 points.  In the end participants and spectators enjoyed a celebration reception at the Fairway Bar & Grill with a delicious meal prepared by Team TCI.

Reflecting on the event’s success Stacy Cox commented, “We’re truly fortunate to have so many people on this island that not only love golf, but love being part of a bigger cause as well.  The TCHTA is very grateful to all of the participants, the sponsors, the donors and of course the community”.

Organizations and companies gave their assistance by sponsoring individual holes on the course as well as by sponsoring prizes for the silent auction which was held online and at the event.  The list of generous businesses included: Seven Stars Resort, Parkway Pest Solutions, Blue Heron FBO, Gansevoort Turks and Caicos, Casablanca Casino, Amanyara, Grace Bay Car Rentals, Miller Simons O’ Sullivan, ScotiaBank, The Wine Cellar/Bambarra, Key to the Sea Parasailing, Windsong Resort, Bolongo Bay (St. Thomas, USVI), Beaches Turks & Caicos, Ocean Club Resorts, Bianca Sands Resort, Grace Bay Club, Sotheby’s, The Somerset, USA Auto Parts, Grace Bay Paint and Supply, Provo Golf Club, Graceway IGA, Crust Bakery and Quality Food Centre.
