#Providenciales, October 20, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – Swim and Surf TCI are making waves in the pool and the open water by bringing one of Australia’s lead Swim Teacher Trainers – Shannon Townsend to Providenciales to present courses and certification for those individuals in the community that wish to become Learn to Swim Teachers.  Shannon travels extensively throughout Australia and the world to share her years of training and experience.

Swim and Surf TCI strongly believe that school teachers need to have this skill set as swimming is a basic life skill and really does need to be part of every school’s curriculum whether in PE sessions or run as after school clubs.

President Bradley Walkin is delighted that Shannon has traveled all the way from Queensland Australia to assist Swim and Surf TCI and this community in getting more people in the water both children and adults and working towards a community that will be safer in, on and around the water.

Swim Australia is an internationally recognized training programme for swim schools to help them develop their staff and their communities to swim safer smarter and stronger!  Swim Australia is also endorsed by the Australian Swim Coaches and Teachers Association and affiliated with the International Federation of Swim Teachers Association.  As Brad is reminding us all, only the best for this community, that is why our team have spent months researching and evaluating the training programmes and the Australian programmes seem to be the perfect fit for our beautiful by nature islands.

Swim and Surf TCI in partnership with Shannon have developed the TCI Water Safety Ambassador (WSA) certification.  The WSA program teaches basic water safety, personal survival and rescue skills specifically designed for our environment and the TCI’s hotels, resorts and facilities.  Instructors will come to your facility of choice and work with your staff to develop a rescue plan for your facility and ensure your staff are competent to deal with emergency situations.

The amount of technical support and networking that we have done with the International Swim community is amazing and Australia specifically have stepped up to the plate and we are grateful to the following organisations for their support and assistance:

  • Swim Australia
  • Royal Life Saving Society Western Australia – Swim and Survive
  • Ascta (Australian Swimming Teachers & Coaches Association)
  • Royal Life Saving Society Queensland – Swim and Survive
  • Sionna Aquatics
