#Nassau, October 16, 2018 – Bahamas – Elma Garraway is a celebrated educator in The Bahamas and an author whom we had the opportunity to chat with at the time of her book launch and now, she is again nationally recognized for her decades of service to Bahamian children at the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture.

Already with a British MBE, Garraway during Youth Month in The Bahamas this month was presented the National Lifetime Achievement Award and is the patron of Youth Month 2018.

Newly appointed Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Lanisha Rolle was beaming.

“We are ready to walk in unity and we are ready to show our strength.  Young people, it is all about you, this country will change, difference will happen, and you will make it happen.  Today we march in unity with the youth of our nation at the forefront of the change.” – Lanisha Rolle – Bahamas Youth Minister

Youthful national leaders like the youngest Member of Parliament, Travis Robinson and Acting Permanent Secretary of Youth and Director, Darron Turnquest were established as role models of what young Bahamians, with a mind set to achieve can indeed accomplish.

“We have over fifty organizations that are present here at the annual Youth Parade, many of them ranging from church-based youth organizations, civic organizations, as well as many of the schools are out today. So, this is an exciting time for us with these young people, to be out on this parade demonstrating what it is to be a Bahamian youth.” – Darron Turnquest – Bahamas Youth Director

The theme for the 2018 installment of Youth Month is “Youth: Forefront of Change” and as you can see, hundreds, no thousands of young people and youth leaders representing about 50 youth organizations and schools participated in the Ministry’s National Youth Month March and Rally.
