#Providenciales, October 12, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – Junior Minister of Tourism, Zoe Butler, represented the Turks and Caicos Islands at The Caribbean Tourism Youth Congress which was held at Atlantis, Paradise Islands in The Bahamas on October 4, 2018.

The Caribbean Tourism Youth Congress is an integral part of The Caribbean Tourism Organization’s annual State of Tourism Industry Conference (SOTIC). The Caribbean Tourism Youth Congress is a regional activity involving students between the ages of 14-17 from Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) member countries.  Its main aim is to stimulate greater awareness and excitement about tourism among young people in Caribbean communities, by allowing them to research various facets of the tourism sector and share their ideas and vision with respect to future directions for Caribbean tourism.

Zoe Butler, a fifth form student of the Clement Howell High School, gave a riveting speech accompanied by an outstanding video presentation which was lauded by her peers and organizers of the event.  Ms. Butler participated among seventeen (17) other junior ministers and commissioners from throughout the Caribbean region.

The Caribbean Tourism Organization declared 2018 as the year of Wellness and Rejuvenation in the Caribbean.  Ms. Butler was tasked with selecting one wellness sector and sharing how her Ministry plans to tap into this area with a view to designing and creating a new wellness and rejuvenation tourism product or service offering, which has a Caribbean flair, feel and/or touch.  Ms. Butler proposed and presented a solid case for the development of a wellness and rejuvenation center in Middle Caicos.  Her three minute presentation, which was supported by months of research and preparation, was coached by Ms. Blythe Clare, Training Manager of the Turks and Caicos Islands Tourist Board.  Ms. Clare commented, “Zoe’s presentation was exceptional and she represented the Turks and Caicos Islands well. I was extremely proud of her as I have been of all our participants over the years”.

The Turks and Caicos Islands has participated in CTO’s Youth Congress for over 10 years.
