59th Annual E. Clement Bethel National Arts Festival Awards in Grand Bahama

#Freeport, GB, October 2, 2018 – Bahamas – Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Hon. Lanisha Rolle, on Friday affirmed that the National Arts Festival demands of its participants that they perform at their best: an awards ceremony was held at the Hilton Outten Centre where representatives of schools, parents and friends filled the room as some of the youth displayed artistic talents during the programme.

Quoting a few verses of Maya Angelou’s ‘Still I Rise,’ the Minister said she wanted to say that as a nation, “together, we rise.”  The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture plays a pivotal role in the advancement of culture in the country and through the National Arts Festival, brings together participants aged four to 18; the competition, she said, demands that those entered rise in excellence.

Minister Rolle is pictured, centre, making a presentation.  Among those awarded were: Natalia Lewis of St. George’s High School, Art, Jackson Burnside Award – Most Outstanding Individual Work; Erica Weir of Walter Parker Primary School, Dance, Alex Zybine Award – Most Outstanding Choreographer; Ajhonae Wildgoose, Winston Saunders Award – Most Outstanding Drama Student; Bartlett Hill Primary School, Drama, Nicolette Bethel Award; and St. George’s High School, Music, Cleophas R.E. Adderley Award – Most Outstanding Director Music/Senior.
