TCI: Ministry of Health, Agriculture, Sports and Human Services Now Accepting Applications for Tobacco Licences

#Providenciales, September 19, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – The Department of Mental Health and Substance Dependence within the Ministry of Health, Agriculture, Sports and Human Services wish to remind the general public that applications for Tobacco licences are being accepted. According to the Tobacco Control Ordinance Part III Section 10, a person shall not manufacture, import, export, sell or distribute tobacco products without a license.

By definition, a tobacco product is a product entirely or partly made from the leaf tobacco as raw material, which is manufactured to be used for smoking, sucking, chewing or sniffing and includes products such as cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco and snuff just to name a few.

Applications can be collected and submitted at the following locations:

Providenciales: Department of Mental Health and Substance Dependence, Samuel Harvey Building, Down Town

Grand Turk: Department of Mental Health and Substance Dependence, Former Clinic Building, Duncombe Alley

South Caicos, Salt Cay, North and Middle Caicos: District Commissioners Office

Persons submitting applications are advised to bring along a copy of their business license and at least one form of identification.

“Anyone who contravenes Section 10 of the Tobacco Control Ordinance commits an offense and will be subject to a fine not exceeding $10,000, or a term of imprisonment not exceeding three years, or to both.”  “For a second or subsequent offence, to a fine not exceeding $20,000 or a term of imprisonment not exceeding four (4) years, or to both.”
