#Providenciales, September 27, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – The Department of Culture continues to prepare for National Heritage Month celebrations which begin on September 30, 2018.  The Department proudly announces that they hosted a Ripsaw Music Workshop on Friday, August 31st, 2018 at the H.J Robinson High School. This workshop was attended by music teachers from all government schools. The teachers learnt the history behind the Ripsaw Music and techniques used with various musical instruments such as the handsaw, goat skin drums, cowbells and other percussion instruments.

This was a very productive workshop and it was enjoyed by all in attendance. The teachers ensured that the information would be taught to their students and that they were eager to form their ripsaw band within their respective schools.  Students will be ready to perform at the “Ripsaw in the Park which will be held on October 31, 2018 in Providenciales at 5:00 pm.  This will be the final event in the lineup of activities marking National Heritage Month 2018.

Hon. Karen Malcolm, Minister of Education, Youth, Culture and Library Services stated; “This initiative has been long awaited and I am very pleased with the Culture Department for hosting this event. I hope information learnt will be applied to students to produce more cultural features in our schools.”

The Department of Culture wishes to thank all Music Teachers and Principals of the Government schools for accepting our invitation and supporting this initiative.
