#Providenciales, September 18, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – The Ministry of Education will have to present a case to prove that it can afford to keep on giving scholarships to the tune of over two million dollars per year.

The recent cabinet notes exposed that some scholarship candidates applying to earn degrees or certifications within the TCI have been approved, but the head of Cabinet, who is the Governor is also now requesting that a case study be presented on how #TCIG plans to maintain the current spending on scholarships.  Specifically it was said that:  “His Excellency the Governor requested the Ministry to produce a note for Cabinet on plans for the sustainable financing of scholarships in future years.”

A 55 per cent increase in international scholarship spending was announced by the #PDMAdministration on August 13, 2018.  The significant spike in scholarship funding did several things, which includes enabling 72 Turks and Caicos Islanders to pursue degrees in the UK, USA, Canada and the Caribbean.

A media release explained that 29 more scholarship awards were approved this year over last year due in part to that increase.
