TCI: Updated 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season Prediction
#Providenciales, August 20, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – According to the updated Forecast for the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season, the number of predicted storms have decreased.
As of 2nd August 2018, the Colorado State University (CSU), is now predicting a total of 12 named storms, 6 hurricanes; 3 of which will be a Category 3 or higher. According to Dr. Phil Klotzbach, 3 factors which played a part in the CSU’s recent predictions which may hinder tropical 
Unlike the CSU’s predictions, the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) updated predictions as of 9th August, 2018 are as follows: 9-13 named storms, 4-7 hurricanes and 2 major hurricanes. Despite the differences, both CSU and NOAA are predicting a below average season.
Notwithstanding these updated predictions, the Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies cannot over-emphasize the importance to all residents and visitors of the Turks and Caicos Islands to be prepared for the hurricane season. It takes only one storm to cause loss of life and damage to infrastructure.
The Department encourages all residents, visitors and the business community to ensure that they have completed their preparations. As we are now in the peak of the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season, persons who have not started their preparations are encouraged to do so now.
