#Providenciales, August 16, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – The Ports Authority and TRIPLE “S” have signed a contract and secured planning approval for the construction of a new security gatehouse for South Dock, Providenciales.

The new security gatehouse will have an area of 720 sq. ft.   It will be constructed at the main entrance of South Dock to control access to and from the main commercial port of the Turks and Caicos Islands.  The new gatehouse will improve security staff working conditions, workstations, search area, staff kitchen as well as provide male and female bathrooms.  The building will be ‘internet ready’ and will include a staff library to support training functions.

Construction of the gatehouse embraces reliant building standards to reduce likely impacts of future disaster events.  It will be a fully concrete structure and will include high impact windows and doors.  Energy efficiency is also being incorporated into the design of the gatehouse to reduce the carbon footprint of the building and energy costs.  The Gatehouse is also designed to enable future expansion in line with growth of the port.

The new security gatehouse replaces a container office which was destroyed during Hurricane Irma.

The construction phase of the gatehouse project will take approximately 3 months.
