#Providenciales, August 13, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – The Ministry of Health, Agriculture, Human Services and Sports through its National Health Emergency Management Unit collaborated with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in hosting a Logistics Support Systems Training on Providenciales, July 16-18. The facilitator for this training was PAHO Regional Trainer, Mr. Alex Jeffery.

Twenty-two persons participated in the training, participants were drawn from among the various Government Departments and NGOs and included Administrative Officers from the Ministry of Health and its departments, DDME, CITU and ADRA.

The Logistics Support System tracks supplies from point of entry to point of distribution.  This system improves transparency in the management of humanitarian supplies.  Setting up the LSS System in emergency situations will enable reports to be prepared that can be shared with donors and other relevant officials in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

This will enable the Turks and Caicos Islands to better prepared to manage relief supplies in the event of any disaster, given our experiences with the 2017 Hurricanes when we received relief items from several regional and international organizations.

Personnel from the Computer, Information and Technology Unit (CITU) were trained and are knowledgeable and equip to maintain the system when the need arises in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

For more information, contact Ms. Charlene Higgs, Director of Health Disaster, Education and Training on 338-3064.
