#Nassau, August 20, 2018 – Bahamas – It was with great sadness that The Bahamas learned of the passing of Mr Kofi Annan, Former Secretary-General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Laureate.  He was a global statesman who always strived for the best in finding common ground to resolve differences in the world.

Mr Annan, a Ghanaian diplomat, was the seventh Secretary-General to lead the UN, during the period 1997-2006.  His contributions to issues that are impacting our world are part of his legacy that will continue for time to come.

The Government and people of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas extend heartfelt condolences to the Annan Family, to the Government and people of the Republic of Ghana, and to the members of the Kofi Annan Foundation in this time of bereavement.  Many in The Bahamas have their roots in Ghana and these connections are recalled even in these sorrowful times.

The World has lost a true Ambassador and Internationalist.

The Ministry has sent Diplomatic Notes to the United Nations and the Government of Ghana.

May his soul rest in peace.
