BAHAMAS: Labour Force Survey Released

#GrandBahama, August 1, 2018 – Bahamas – Unemployment is up for Grand Bahama and Abaco in The Bahamas despite valiant efforts by the government to get more Bahamians working.  Grand Bahama is at 12.4 percent, while Abaco stands at 10.7 percent; the pair of islands are home to the second and third largest populations of Bahamians.  The information comes from the published Labour Force Survey, which measured employment conditions up to May 2018.

The Bahamas overall unemployment rate hovers at 10 percent; it was down slightly in this latest survey from 10.1 percent as measured the year before.  Youth Employment is high and grew higher from 22.1 percent to 24.1 percent.  There are more men working in The Bahamas than women, over 7,000 more men of the overall 208,255 people who were recorded as employed by The Bahamas Department of Statistics between November 2017 and May 2018.
