#Providenciales, July 18, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – The 17th Annual Conference of the Association of Caribbean Higher Education Administrators (ACHEA) recently concluded in Trinidad and was attended by Desiree Robinson and Jason Henry of The TCICC and close to one hundred other delegates from around the Caribbean, United Stated of America, England, and Canada.  The ACHEA Conference was themed “Embracing the Future: Creative Approaches to Higher Education”.

“This conference was well-worth attending as it provided an excellent atmosphere for higher educators to receive and share information, strategies and solutions; as well as create networking opportunities” commented Desiree Robinson, Chair of Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management, TCICC.  She further commented, “While we are doing well at the TCICC we know that we have a long way to go in terms of modernizing our centers, incorporating more effective technology in our delivery, providing our faculty and students with professional development, marketing our brand, and connecting with our TCI community.  The ACHEA Conference further ignited the passion for these advancements”.

Some of the sub-themes of the conference included:

  • Creativity and Innovation in Managing Teaching and Learning
  • The Student Experience: Removing Barriers
  • Show Me the Money: Financing Higher Education
  • Libraries of the Future: Succeeding in a Digital Age
  • Quality Assurance: Fulfilling the Mandate
  • Governance and Leadership
  • Engaging, Nurturing and Uplifting Employees through Change and Disruption
  • Rebuilding and Retooling After Natural Disasters

Jason Henry, Chair of Humanities and Liberal Studies-TCICC, remarked, “The ACHEA executive members are eager to ensure the continued involvement of TCI in their initiatives and hinted that the TCICC will be included on the 2019 line-up of speakers”. As such, ACHEA is seen as an excellent platform for research to be done and presented on topical issues in higher education within the TCI.

Overall, the ACHEA conference was hailed as a success by all attendees for its thrust towards innovativeness in teaching methodologies, demonstrating relevant research development in educational management and administration and encouraging alliances through partnerships. ACHEA 2019 is scheduled for Jamaica.
