TCI Cadets Get Culinary Experience At Beaches Resort

#Providenciales, July 13, 2018 – Bahamas – Ten members of the Turks & Caicos Islands Cadet Corps got an exciting firsthand Culinary experience at Beaches Turks & Caicos Villages Resort and Spa as a part of their extracurricular training.

The initiative, spearheaded by Regiment Sergeant Major, Michael Reid who is also an employee at Beaches was determined to not only to introduce Cadets to the culinary arts but also showcase various career options that are available in the hospitality industry.  “Culinary is a huge industry in the Caribbean and being able to cook can open so many doors for these kids,” said Reid.  “I am very happy that Beaches was able to take on our Cadets to showcase the industry not only did the cadets gain valuable skills but they also broadened their career options and even opened the door to a new hobby.  I hope that they enjoyed the experience, but my biggest hope is that they seize the opportunity they’ve been given and use their new skills to form a career.”

Under the guidance of Executive Chef Colin Watson, the Cadets underwent vigorous training.  The course offered insightful theory, followed by a series of practical.  The Cadet Corps program is offered to any high school student ages 12–18. It promotes five core values: leadership, discipline, volunteerism, patriotism, and virtue.  The corps is made up of four battalions and over 190 cadets on North and South Caicos as well as Grand Turks and Providenciales.

“I am hoping that they enjoyed and learned as much as we did and can take this very valuable experience back to their homes and the community to share and recreate it and let their families and friends taste their skills and creations,” Watson, “I would like to praise their maturity, level of focus and most of all what they achieved.  It was a true pleasure to be part of their training and development.  Experiencing what we did with the Cadet’s, I would happily offer them all jobs, it would be a pleasure to have them as part of our Culinary team.”

“It was a true pleasure to see Ten members of the Turks & Caicos Islands Cadet Corps receive training and development classes here at Beaches Turks and Caicos over the last six weeks.  We got to spend time with the youth of the future, sharing our love and passion for our industry, handing over our knowledge and experience.” Watson added.
