TCI: Beaches Hires over 100 Summer Interns

#Providenciales, July 20, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – 107 students from across the Turks and Caicos Islands have been selected to be a part of an advanced paid summer internship program at Beaches Turks and Caicos Resorts and Spas as the company leads in fostering careers in hospitality.  The six-week program which accepts students from high school and university level places the interns in more than 100 departments within the luxury included resort including Concierge, Cost Control, Public Relations, Human Resources, Training and Development and Food and Beverage.

Now in its eight year, over 600 students have successfully completed the internship program which aims to increase the local recruitment pool at the resort and develop the next generation of tourism professionals for the Turks and Caicos Islands.  The interns were required to apply for their preferred positions and later interviewed by the Human Resources department. Applicants further received orientation on customer service and from the Training Department on the company’s best standard practices.

Human Resources Manager, Monique Vaughn noted that all of the applicants were accepted in the program this year.  Speaking on the program, Vaughn said; ‘the Company’s credo and mission speaks to our commitment to “making today better than it was yesterday” and as stakeholders “a commitment to learning”; the Beaches Summer Programme aids in preparing the youth of the Turks and Caicos Islands for the future.”

One of the major success stories for the resort is Cliphlande Mano who started as a summer intern in the summers of 2014 and 2015.  Cliphlande went on to be an Apprentice in 2016 and today she is employed at the resort in the Cost Control Department as a Store Room Clerk after being attached to several other departments within the resort.

Rafana Innocent a recent graduate of the Clement Howell High School is hoping to follow in the steps of fellow success stories.  Commenting on the program this year, Innocent stated: “I was a part of the Summer Internship program last year working in the Front Desk department, it was a great opportunity, and it taught me a lot of things.  Hospitality is related to what I want to become in the future so I’m excited to come back.”

Jason Gibson, a recent Graduate of Maranatha Academy also commented on the program, “The summer internship program helps me get more work experience and helps me financially.  I hope to gain from it how to work in the tourism industry and how to give back to the country”

The internship program ends on August 24^th. Students who successfully complete the internship program are selected to a part of the resort’s Shining Stars Initiative- a more intensive work study program.  Those students can later advance to participate in future internships at the resort during Christmas and Easter holidays and summer breaks.  Students will also receive certificate of completion for the internship program and Shining STARS.
