TCI: 100 Plus CCTV Cameras Launched

#Providenciales, July 30, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – 100 PLUS CCTV CAMERAS LAUNCHED The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force is proud to announce that the installation of the Turks and Caicos Island’s long-awaited public closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera monitoring system and the new 911 Centre in Providenciales is nearing completion.

More than 100 CCTV high definition and high-resolution cameras are going up at 50 different locations around Providenciales, identified by the Police Force.

Commissioner of Police James Smith said, “The installation of the CCTV Cameras in the Turks and Caicos, specifically Providenciales augments and strengthens our continued community mobilization and partnerships against crime. It is our continued commitment to ensuring that the residents and visitors of the Turks and Caicos Islands ability to enjoy a safe life are not undermined in any way”.

The cameras will transmit images in real-time back to the 911 Control Room where they will be monitored and used when incidents are reported in a specific area.

The cameras will also transmit data to a secured storage location and the recordings will be kept for a period of time, in case the recordings are requested by police for review. The Centre will operate within stringent security measures and access thereto will be strictly controlled and limited only to qualified and authorized members.

Digicel Turks and Caicos won the contract to install and maintain the 105 cameras on Providenciales. That contract also covers equipment, video management software, all of the servers and storage devices, and the outfitting of the Command & Control Centre.

The Turks and Caicos Islands Government and the Police Force have embarked on this project with the view that safety and security are key elements of an improved quality of life amongst residents and visitors alike.

Some US$800,000 has been spent on the CCTV project and establishing the necessary infrastructure for the 911 Centre, with the support of the Turks and Caicos Islands Government and Private Sponsors. But that’s not the end of CCTV. According to Commissioner Smith, the plan eventually calls for more cameras –to be installed on Grand Turk and later the sister Islands.

The under-mentioned information refers to both completed and under-way installation of cameras in various locations on Providenciales.

The full CCTV system and 911 Centre is expected to go live by August 31 2018.
