Turks & Caicos Islands Public Accounts Committee to Welcome Clerk from States of Jersey Assembly

#Providenciales, June 6, 2018 – Turks and Caicos – The Turks & Caicos Islands Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will welcome a clerk from the States of Jersey Assembly for an attachment that will last from 29 May – 8 June 2018.   The attachment is part of the UK Overseas Territories Project, a three-year project on public financial oversight delivered in consortium by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK (CPA UK), the UK National Audit Office (NAO) and the Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA).

Hon. Akierra Missick MHA, Chair of the Turks & Caicos PAC, expressed her interest in building knowledge and experience of the parliamentary procedures and the remit of the PAC at the launch of the project.

Since its launch in March 2017, TCI has engaged with the UK Overseas Territories Project through e-workshops for external audit staff, attendance at the 2017 Westminster Workshop for the PAC Chair and the performance audit workshop in Miami in April 2018.

Building on this, Caro Tomlinson – Clerk at the States of Jersey Assembly – will be partnering with the PAC Chair and Clerk to the Turks & Caicos House of Assembly to help develop its upcoming work plan, inquiry and committee management processes.

 Hon. Akierra Missick MHA stated; “We anticipate this short term bespoke assistance will have a long term beneficial impact on the effectiveness of the PAC by providing tailored support to the clerk and the PAC more broadly.  We look forward to welcoming the clerk from Jersey to the islands and hope that the exchange of learning can continue beyond the attachment.”

 Caro Tomlinson stated; “This is a great opportunity to share information and knowledge about good practice in Public Accounts Committees across smaller jurisdictions.  I welcome the opportunity to share my expertise gained through working at the States of Jersey Assembly and hope to also further my understanding of the Turks & Caicos PAC, including how it can maximise effectiveness with limited resources.  I hope we can maintain a good working relationship beyond my short visit, based on co-operation, shared values and a commitment to effective scrutiny.”
