#Providenciales, June 2, 2018 – TurksandCaicos – The Turks & Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association (TCHTA) is celebrating its commitment to training and development in the Turks & Caicos Islands by launching its first ever development centre.

Come June 1st, the Providenciales based Association will offer courses and certification programs in various areas for tourism and non-tourism practitioners across the board. This is the first of its kind in the Turks & Caicos Islands and this development centre will mark a new and exciting milestone for the hospitality industry.

“We are excited! This program is the result of our organization’s continuous efforts to elevate the skill level of Turks & Caicos residents,” said Stacy Cox, Chief Executive Officer of the TCHTA.  “Our mission for our new centre is to innovate while providing an effective solution that can prepare individuals to meet the current and emerging needs of a growing economy.”

Courses will be offered at the TCHTA’s brand new headquarters, unit #52 at the Salt Mills Plaza in Grace Bay.  Classes will run from June 1st and will aim to transform lives and communities through learning.  It will also inspire by motivating change and achieving personal and professional goals of individuals and organizations alike.

“As our country grows, so does the demand for skilled laborers,” Cox continued, “It is our goal to improve the education and the technical competencies of the local workforce.”

Powered by Peak Professional, the development centre will offer formal academic advancement and avenues for career development.  Through partnerships with internationally recognized training centers, this program will place individuals on a path that will better equip them to professionally deliver the needs of the Turks & Caicos Islands and ultimately increase the productivity of the workforce.

The Association has partnered with world-renowned hospitality school, American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) to bring several hospitality certification courses to recipients.

Other courses will include Food Safety Certification, Customer Service, Microsoft Office (All Levels), Business Writing, Cultural Diversity, Leadership Development, Conflict Management, Conversational French, Conversational Spanish, Technical and Vocational Programs, Photography and Sommelier courses.

“According to the recent skill audit made public by the government, in three years, there will be around 3000 plus jobs in the Turks and Caicos Islands and as such we are positioning ourselves by extension our community to prepare for those opportunities.”  She said, “It is our hope that this Development Centre will be the nucleus of excellence for all hospitality employees, whether they’re looking to begin their careers or improve their current skillsets.”
