BAHAMAS: Government teams with faith-based partners to help people stop smoking

#Nassau, June 6, 2018 – Bahamas – Minister of Health, Dr. the Hon. Duane Sands announced that his Ministry has launched the ‘Healthy Bahamas Coalition Programme’, which partners with non-government and faith-based organizations towards creating a healthier Bahamas.

He noted at a press conference May 31 at his office, “We have partnered with the South Bahamas Conference of Seventh Day Adventists to have a Smoking Cessation Programme at the H. D. Coburn Auditorium (at the old Bahamas Academy Campus), Wulff Road, starting this evening and running through June.”

“If you are smoker and have decided to stop smoking, you can call the Healthy Bahamas Coalition Secretariat at the Ministry of Health for information on how you can take part in the programme.”

He said 46 facilitators were trained on October 12 and 13 and November 21, 2017 and were ready to facilitate the smoking cessation sessions.  The training of Family Island facilitators should commence soon.
