TCI: Drowning incident at Grace Bay Beach-Providenciales

#TurksandCaicos, May 22, 2018 – Providenciales – The Ministry of Tourism is saddened by the unfortunate drowning that occurred on Grace Bay Beach, Providenciales on 21st May, 2018.  The identity of the victim has not been released as the matter is currently being investigated by the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force; hence no details have been released.  The Ministry encourages anyone that witnessed the incident to kindly contact the police.

The Minister of Tourism, Hon. Ralph Higgs conveyed his disbelief after being informed of the unfortunate event that has shaken the close knit community; he asked residents to keep the family in their prayers.  He further asked that the community allow the grieving family time to contact their loved ones and refrain from speculation and circulation of images on social media out of respect for the deceased and to allow the family to be notified.

A number of key agencies such as the DECR, Tourist Board and Maritime Department recognizes the importance of taking the necessary precautions to ensure safety on the water and will continue to host workshops to further increase awareness.

The Ministry of Tourism in general and the Turks and Caicos Tourist Board in particular will continue to offer assistance to the family in any way possible and we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the grieving family.
