TCI: Cancer Candle Light Vigil 

#TurksandCaicos, May 24, 2018 – Providenciales – The world is remembering cancer patients, cancer victims and cancer champions this month and in the Turks and Caicos a touching candle light vigil literally ignited as it over the weekend united people affected by the non-discriminating disease …

“The bigger picture of it is to promote the awareness of cancer in the Turks and Caicos and just come together as family, as friends, as co-workers as partners to show our support for the National Cancer Society and by extension our support for persons fighting cancer in the Turks and Caicos.” – Rosemary Jolly (President National Cancer Society TCI)

Torches lit… blazing with the love of those lost and those who have overcome a disease which comes in over 100 forms and kills 7.6 million people each year.

“Many of us hide this sickness.  We hide it because we don’t want Tom know, we don’t want Peter know, and guess what, we are getting worse because we are so busy hiding it.  The more you talk about it, the more you stay positive, you get a better outcome of it.” – Joan Astwood – cancer survivor

The Premier of the Turks and Caicos was also at the solemn service held at the Turks and Caicos National Stadium; her government recently taking a strong stance against cancer by funding expert training to improve early detection.

“My mom, a three time cancer survivor, I’m supporting my cousin who is a featured speaker here tonight, several of them are cancer survivors, everyone knows Mrs. Louis Thomas, she was my first cousin, I’m memorializing her, and I lost four aunts to cancer, so I’m here, a night for the fight.  So it’s important to memorialize those we have lost and continue to support them and celebrate those who survived.” – Hon. Sharlene Robinson
