Environmental Health Department Advises The Public on Ponds in West Road, Grand Turk

#TurksandCaicos, May 30, 2018 – Grand Turk – The Environmental Health Department (EHD) has made recommendations to address the concerns with the ponds on West Road, Grand Turk.  EHD wish to advise the residents of Grand Turk, especially those living in West Road to cease from disposing of liquid, solid waste and any other type of waste into the pond which will result in contamination of the pond.  Due to the odor emanating from the pond which is link to possible contamination.  EHD is requesting that persons cease fishing and playing in and or around the pond.

EHD further advises residents and visitors to cease eating any fish or other marine life from the pond to prevent any possible foodborne and other illnesses/outbreaks.

The department has highlighted alternative and corrective measures/actions to bring a sustainable solution to the problem of the existing odor. EHD in collaboration with Public Works Department, Department of Environment and Coastal Resources and Planning Department, & Ministry of Health, Agriculture, Sports and Human Services is working to implement the highlighted corrective measures/actions.
