BAHAMAS: Attorney General Addressed Freedom of Information Act 2017 Implementation Workshop

#Bahamas, April 24, 2018 – Nassau – Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Senator, the Hon. Carl W. Bethel, delivered remarks at the opening ceremony of the Bahamas Freedom of Information Act 2017 Implementation Workshop.  The event was held at the Paul H. Farquharson Conference Centre, Police Headquarters, on Monday, April 23, 2018.

Workshops through Wednesday commence with a session for Cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament, Permanent Secretaries and Senior Government Officials.  Other sessions will be held for Family Island Administrators, Members of Civil Society and the Media.  The workshop focuses on Jamaica’s access to information experiences — challenges, successes and opportunities and are being facilitated by Mr. Damian Cox, Chief Technical Director in the Office of the Prime Minister, Access to Information Unit, Jamaica, and Mr. Shane Miller, Assistant Director of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Legal Affairs, The Bahamas.

Mr. Cox was involved in the implementation of Jamaica’s Access to Information Act, which is equivalent to the Bahamas’ Freedom of Information Act.
